Good Friday Prayer

Lord, help me crucify all empty desires within me, all vestiges of my self-will, and all traces of pride. Lord, help me put to death all vice and whatever is within me that is not pleasing in your eyes. Lord, as I surrender to your love and give up my spirit of rebellion, allow me to grow in virtue and holiness. Lord, only by your wounds can I be healed, and so I humbly ask You to allow your precious blood to wash over me and renew me.

Bitter Cross

O sweet Lord
I want so very much
to avoid the bitter cross
You ask me to carry,
the cross of putting aside
everything that is outside
the realm of Your love.
Actually, nothing is outside
the realm of Your love,
because You so long for us,
so thirst for us,
that You follow us
into the darkest corners
of our lives
looking to embrace us
with Your mercy and compassion.
Yet I so often
want to embrace things
that You find
unhealthy and unfitting
for a seeker of God.

O Lord help me see, feel and know
that outside of You
there is nothing of any worth,
and that with You
all is priceless.
Help me nail to the cross
the secret things in my heart
that I must sacrifice
in order to follow You
more closely
and love You
more dearly.

Radiant Sweetness

Radiant Sweetness

O God how I long for Your
radiant sweetness and abundant goodness
to overflow in my heart.
But I stand in the way
of such a Divine visitation.
My unruly behavior
withdraws the welcome mat
Your extravagant grace seeks.
A stone heart
is hard to enter.

Having felt Grace’s embrace
I long to feel it again.
Help me, Lord,
prepare my heart
to receive Her once more.
Peace and purity
are the welcome mat She seeks.

To be pure of heart
requires an undivided heart,
a heart fixed on You
and You alone.
A pure heart
beats with love
for the Other
and every other.
A pure heart
is unsullied
by pride, envy or lust.
A pure heart
only gives
and never takes.
A pure heart
is a humble heart.
A pure heart
is a peaceful heart,
a heart unruffled
by the ups and downs of life.

Peace and purity
are soul mates
living together
in the heavenly chamber
Your never-ending grace
creates within us
as we surrender
more and more of ourselves
to Your all-embracing Love.

The Canvas of My Soul

The Canvas of My Soul

Oh God, I have not yet

truly begun to paint

the canvas of my soul.

Help me find the vivid brush strokes of

love, tenderness, compassion,

wonder, poetry and purity

needed to create a portrait

inspired by You

to be given as a gift

to all who see it.

Help me replace

the dark, hidden tones

of my life

with the numinous hues

that reveal harmony and balance.

Have the borders

of my canvas

not be so small

as to exclude

the richness and diversity

of all humanity

and the endless paths

to the divine.

My Prayer for the New Year

A Soothing Ray of Light

O God, help me let go of
everything in my life
and all that I expect and wish for.
I know that You have
the best plan for me,
and I am trying
to give You everything:
my life, my time, my possessions
and my aspirations.
Help me to wait upon You
and not take matters
into my own hands.
I want to give You my all
and I believe
with all my heart and strength
that You will take care of me,
far and above anything I could ever do.
I love you Lord,
and I want all of my life
to be my gift to You.
Help me, please, dear Lord,
let go of everything
that keeps me from being
more fully united to You.

Lord, help me grow
in humility,
help me to confess
my own brokenness.
Help me move out of my world
of illusion and self-created desires
and into Your universe
of love, joy and peace.

Lord, I cry out for healing.
Transform my brokenness,
I beg You,
into a new life in You,
the true source
of strength and wholeness.

Help me, Lord, remove everything
that blocks me from joyfully living
the good news of the paschal mystery.
O awesome and transcendent God,
free me from the slavery of my sinfulness.

In my prison of darkness,
Your unmerited grace
is a soothing ray of light.

Bitter Cross

Bitter Cross

O sweet Lord
I want so very much
to avoid the bitter cross

so thirst for us,

Yet I so often

for a seeker of God.

O Lord help me see, feel and know
that outside of You

and that with You
all is priceless.
Help me nail to the cross
the secret things in my heart
that I must sacrifice
in order to follow You

and love You
more dearly.

Sancte Veni Spiritus

Sancte Veni Spiritus
Come Holy Spirit

Come into my loneliness
with your friendship,
Come into my weariness
with your strength,
Come into my anxiety
with your peace.

Come into my suffering
with your comfort,
Come into my sorrows
with your joy,
Come into my sadness
with your consolation.

Come into my heart
with your balm,
Come into my darkness
with your light,
Come into my despair
with your hope.

Come into my heart
with your love,
Come into my mind
with your truth,
Come into my soul
with your holiness.

Come into my unfaithfulness
with your forgiveness.
Come into my fearfulness
with your boldness.
Come into my forgetfulness
with your memory.

Come into my ingratitude
with your thankfulness.
Come into my coldness
with your fervor.
Come into my nothingness
with your mystery.

Come, Holy Spirit!
Amen.
