A Crowded Subway

Individual holiness allows God to appear in our midst, on our streets, in our homes, on a crowded subway, in a factory and an office, at the beach or a ballpark – anywhere where humans are. Holiness makes God visible.

The Gospel asks us to live without embellishment or pretense, to live without anxiety and to live free from all illusions of success. Ambition should be confined to topping yourself. Seek wonder, not success. Make each new day holy.

An unusual description of ‘holiness.’ I suspect that most people would not consider themselves ‘holy,’ by doggedly trying to live out the Gospel teachings of Jesus — definitely not an easy feat in today’s world that is pervaded by selfishness and hatred toward ‘the other.’
