A Cozy Jesus

The raw and uncompromising vision of Jesus demands sacrifice. The prophetic, counter-cultural nature of his message is too shocking for us to truly follow. Many of us, myself included, want a cozy, neighborly Jesus who does not demand too much from us, a Jesus who is content with us worshipping him without any sense of sacrifice. Jesus lived, loved and died for the people who were despised, marginalized and often hated in a society intent on destroying them. These very same people are with us today and Jesus asks us to wash their feet and care for them. There is nothing cozy about Jesus.
