In This Darkness

In This Darkness

We are lost.
All is hopeless.
Look around, the evidence is clear.
War, hatred, violence,
lying, cheating, stealing,
and corruption abound.
Greed and lust have all but become virtues.
There can be no doubt:
we are lost, all is hopeless.
And we are powerless
to change anything.

But in this darkness,
God sheds a light.
What was impossible for us to see –
love, mercy, compassion, kindness, hope –
is possible with God.
God has the infinite power
to change everything.
But we have the on/off switch
to that unlimited power.
And that on/off switch is
surrender and obedience.
To have access to God’s power,
we must first surrender our own will
and then submit to the will of God.
The switch is right before or eyes,
but we chose not to see.
We mask our blindness
and hopelessness with
an array of illusions
and deceptions.
And so the darkness remains
because without God
we are lost and all is hopeless.
