Grabbing It All

Grabbing It All

The impulse to accumulate all we can
needs to be thwarted.
We have no right
to own more than we need.
And we need far less
than we want.

Voluntary physical poverty is a means
to a healthy spiritual poverty.

Exterior and interior poverty are close friends.

A spirit of poverty makes detachment
from possessions possible.
Poverty of spirit
fights the instinct to possess.

Gratification of the instinct to possess material things
makes one susceptible to the vice of selfishness –
grabbing all you can for yourself, without regard for others.
