Jesus invited the poor and the outcasts
to sit at his banquet table.
Who are our dinner guests?
Giving food to the poor
is easy.
Eating with the poor
is much harder.
And more rewarding.
Jesus ate with the poor,
and He asks us to do the same.
Communion with the poor
is an enriching source of healing.
In the Sermon on the Mount,
Christ said the hungry
will be satisfied.
It can happen –
but only if we stand in solidarity
with the poor and accompany them
on their journey.
As we walk together,
common concern
will overcome
the destructive tendencies
of individualism and greed.
